The King of The Bamoun

H.M. the Sultan King of the Bamoun, MFORIFOUM MBOMBO NJOYA MOUHAMMAD-NABIL is the 20th King of the Dynasty of Nchare Yen founder of the Bamoun kingdom. He was enthroned by the notables called “NKOM” and presented to the Bamoun, national and international community on October 10, 2021, at the traditional ceremonial court of the royal palace as required by tradition.

Born on June 28, 1993, one year after his father King Ibrahim Mbombo Njoya’s accession to the throne in 1992. Therefore, he is the first child born during his father’s tenure. As a youth, he was initiated into Bamoun rituals and customs. His upbringing was split between Foumban (arts city) and Yaoundé, Cameroon’s capital. His time at Vogt College, where he completed his secondary education, was extraordinary. After graduating from Lycée de Foumban in 2011 with a high school diploma, he travels to the United States and enrols at Saint-John’s University in New York. In 2015, he will earn a Bachelor’s degree. n 2016, he pursued his postgraduate studies at the National School of Administration and Magistracy (ENAM) with a major in civil administration and a minor in economics and finance.

Prior to his coronation, the Sultan King of Bamoun, who graduated from the aforementioned institution in 2018, served as the head of the Legal Division for the Governor of the South region. He will be required to permanently relocate from the southern community of Ebolowa to the Royal Palace. At the age of 28, he joined the legendary coterie of the NCHARE YEN Dynasty.

For more than a year now, His Majesty the Sultan King of Bamoun, Mforifoum Mbombo Njoya Mouhammad-Nabil has been the guardian of Bamoun customs and practices and ensures the management of the Bamoun kingdom with two deputies (his brothers), namely Nji PEKASSA MBOMBO NJOYA and Nji NJIMOLUH NJOYA Seidou, who are the first and second deputies respectively.

The projects that await the King are numerous. Among them is the matter of the Great Cultural and Economic Days of the Bamoun Community. The announcement of the postponement of the candidacy of the Nguon for its inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in November 2021 was received with consternation in view of the energies that had been invested in it by the late Sultan before his passing.

A situation that worries the new Monarch who will make it one of his priorities. The King will personally attend several meetings. An expert will be dispatched from Burkina Faso for a week of training on capacity building on the 2003 Convention by the Ministry of Arts and Culture. A frank collaboration that sees the Secretary General of this Ministry not missing any of the scheduled sessions.

In his vision, Sultan King H.M. MFORIFOUM MBOMBO NJOYA Mouhammad-Nabil aspires not only to complete the projects and initiatives established by his predecessor, but also and most importantly to leave his mark on the construction of the Kingdom of NCHARE YEN.
